Demetrios Leonidas BEGLERIS Demetrios ??Jimmie' was born on January 10, 1914 and passed away peacefully in Everett on August 15, 2008 at the age of 94. Although born in Clifton, Oregon, Jimmie was raised in Andros, Greece. During WWII he served in the Greek Navy, the US Merchant Marines, and the US Army. He then spent many years fishing commercially in Alaska. In 1954, while vacationing in Greece, he met his (late) wife, Eula they married and he brought his new bride to the United States where they bought a home in North Seattle and raised three daughters. Jimmie operated a number of local taverns where he would entertain his customers nightly with never-ending stories. He loved to cook and was quite capable of preparing his meals well past his 90th birthday. He loved nothing more than spending time with his children and grandchildren. He is survived by daughters Renee Knowles (Ron), Stephanie Lembesis (Alexis) and grandchildren Kosta and Eula, and Elaine Laurent (Larry) and grandchildren Kalena and Demetra.We love you Bah Bah and Papou. At his request, a private family memorial service was held on August 25th. Remembrances can be made to the St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church. Published in print on 8/31/2008 Seattle Times |
