The entrance to the Vatopedi. The dome in front of it is to protect visitors from the hot sun and the rain. Monasteries are open to anyone from sunrise to sunset. At the gate there is always a monk responsible to check those entering.

Η είσοδος στο Βατοπέδι. Ο θόλος εμπρός από την πόρτα είναι για να προστατεύει τους επισκέπτες από τον ζεστό ήλιο και τη βροχή. Η πύλη ανοίγει από την ανατολή μέχρι τη δύση του ηλίου. Στην είσοδο υπάρχει πάντοτε ένας μοναχός (ο Πορτιέρης) υπεύθυνος για το ποιοι μπαινοβγαίνουν.

In every monastery there is always a krine, a fountain near the gate, to be used by the visitors.
